I had been looking forward to my hike of the Tour de Mount Blanc for almost a year when my rather grumpy knees began to give me problems a couple weeks before departure. Sometimes the pain was medial, sometimes lateral. Sometimes it was above the knee, sometimes below. Given the intensity of the pain on the flat lands of the Midwest, I decided I better bring some sort of brace on the trip to the Alps. I got a pair of the Cho Pat Dual Action Knee Braces as they seemed to cover all the bases I needed. I was very impressed. Typically my ascents have taken less time than descents because of knee pain (examples, Grand Canyon, Mount Fuji). When I put these braces on before descent, I had zero pain and was moving much faster with confidence. Our trip featured 3-4000 feet of elevation gain and loss per day over eight days and I had zero problems with my knees. These braces pack small, attach easily to the outside of a pack by their velcro closures and don’t require taking boots on and off to use. I won’t hike without them again and highly recommend them.
